Trips
Every troop wants to plan a trip, and similar questions always arise. This page was created to give you a path to answer those questions! Please scroll through the page for the information you need. If you still have questions, please send an email to trip coordinator.
What to Take on Trips
Always take the following on every trip:
- Emergency Medical Forms (EMF) - One required per girl. Each vehicle needs a set.
- Permission slips - One required per girl.
- First Aid Kit - One per vehicle.
- Cell Phone - One per vehicle.
- Flashlight - One per vehicle.
- Paperwork - Any other trip specific paperwork as required in the manual.
Examples of Level Appropriate Trips
- Daisies – Neighborhood trips - Short trips to points of interest in the neighborhood : A hike, a short ride by car to public tour – local park, museum.
- Brownies – Day trip – An all-day visit to point of interest (pack lunch) or a day-long trip to a nearby city (stopping for a meal) – Hocking Hills, The Wilds, Newport Aquarium.
- Brownies – Overnight trips – 1 or 2 nights away camping, hotel or motel. Girls do much of the planning. Several hours away, but not too far – Indianapolis Children’s Museum, Oglebay, WV.
- Juniors – Extended Overnight trips – 3 or 4 nights away camping, hotel or motel within region – Savannah, GA, Washington, DC.
- Cadettes – National trips – a week or more somewhere they might not go with family, has an educational component.
- Cadettes, Seniors & Ambassadors – World traveling – requires 2-3 years preparation – use the Global Travel Toolkit – visit 1 of 4 World Centers or a worldwide service center (Habitat for Humanity).

Level 1 (Daisy and first year Brownie Troops)
Level 1 Trip Description: Trips are short in duration to nearby locations. These trips are great for Daisies, and highly recommended as a starting point for any new Brownie troops. Service unit and council approval is not required for these trips.
Level 1 Trip Examples: Library, firehouse, or a local park for hiking

Level 1 Trip Prerequisites:
- Understanding the buddy system.
- Signed permission slips for each girl are required.
- Pinks (EMF with adults on trip).
- Proper transportation has been arranged.
- One Leader must have completed Safety-Wise, Adult First Aider must attend.
Level 2 (Brownie Troops)
Level 2 Trip Description: Trips last the greater part of a day. Destinations are close enough to travel to point of interest, tour, complete activity, eat, rest stops, and return home the same day.
Level 2 Trip Examples: State Parks, amusement or water park, zoo, historical sites.

Level 2 Trip Prerequisities:
- Understanding the buddy system.
- Completion of 2 or 3 Level 1 trips.
- Signed permission slips for each girl are required.
- Pinks (EMF with adults on trip).
- Proper transportation has been arranged.
- One Leader must have completed Safety-Wise, Adult First Aider must attend.
Level 3 (Brownie Troops)
Level 3 Trip Description: Overnight Trips (1 or 2 nights). Travel should be approximately 4 hours away by car with specific plans for activities. Staying overnight in hotel, camping, or camp-in.
Level 3 Trip Examples: Zoo camp-in, Cedar Point, K-J, Marmon Valley, Indianapolis Children’s Museum, State Parks

Level 3 Trip Prerequisites:
- Meet level 2 prerequisites plus completion of 2 or 3 Level 2 trips.
- SU Team notification and Approval - Submit Level 3 Tripping Form 30-60 days prior
- Girl and Adult planning.
- Signed permission slips for each girl are required.
- Pinks (EMF with adults on trip).
- Proper transportation has been arranged.
- One Adult First Aider must attend.
- For Camping, one adult must be Troop Camp Certified
Level 4 (Junior Troops)
Level 4 Trip Description: Extended Overnight Trips (3 or more nights). Travel of greater distance than Level 3 and activities can last several days to a week. Staying overnight in hotel, camping, or camp-in.
Level 4 Trip Examples: Anywhere within the US – Savannah, GA, Washington, DC.

Level 4 Trip Prerequisites:
- Meet Level 3 Prerequisites and completed 3 or 4 Level 3 trips, at least 2 Level 2 trips and 1 Level 1 trip.
- Girl and Adult planning.
- Application must be approved by Council 1 year in advance.
- Recommended to take six months to 1 year to plan.
- Special permission slips required.
- Pinks (EMF with adults on trip).
- One Adult First Aider must attend.
- For Camping, one adult must be Troop Camp Certified.
- Adults must have additional training as required in the Level 4 Tripping Manual.

Level 5 (Cadettes, Seniors, & Ambassadors)
Level 5 Trip Description: Trips outside the USA. Planned by troops over a 2-3 year period using council and GSUSA guidelines.
Level 5 Trip Examples: Anywhere outside continental US, Our chalet, Pax Lodge, Our Cabana.

Level 5 Trip Prerequisite:
- Meet Level 4 Prerequisites and have completed 2 or more Level 4 trips, with at least 1 out of state, plus the progression of Levels 1, 2 & 3 trips.
- Girl and Adult planning.
- Application must be approved by Council 2 or 3 years in advance when planning begins.
- Recommended to take 2 to 3 years to plan.
- Special permission slips required.
- Pinks (EMF with adults on trip).
- One Adult First Aider must attend.
- For Camping, one adult must be Troop Camp Certified.
- Adults must have additional training as required in the Level 5 Tripping Manual.
